Updates and stuff. Busy on so many tasks and with life itself. Maybe I will clean of my desk to get a handle on things...

After all the chatter from the Planet Earth and a calming population I am finally getting back to work. I am starting to finish up and clean some documentation on the website. Work on the "Top Secret" OSS project has restarted as frustration that cause its creation has returned. Otherwise, the sun is out and it is very pretty so I shall have to go and enjoy some of it.

Survived the Earthquakes and just calming down to enjoy things. Playing with lots of toys like HTML5, SVG, CSS3, GPXE, openQRM, ISPCONFIG and mostly hacking MediaWiki.

Note to self... its "dig domainname AXFR" if transfers are enabled. Otherwise you have to do reverse lookups from the subnet and that is prone to error.

Moving averages in IT should be called moving Targets. Most try to hit them and few succeed. I was repairing some items for a few groups and noticed the moving average size and complexity of a modern webpage has grown out of control. A web page for a company or group should load in any browser in an acceptable amount of time. Five minutes is not an acceptable amount of time and Microsoft Internet Explorer is not the only web browser. If you write your web page or whole website with a browser check for a particular version of a vendors web browser and then inform them that they have to have that version of that web browser to use the site I ask that you please ask a doctor to remove your capacity to reproduce.

Applying detailed attention to the processes and actions of a process has allowed a great deal of growth and scale in my work. I now have to come to terms with what I have developed and embed the knowledge deep in my mushy brain matter. There is no such thing as too much thought or too much review when it comes to progress...

Just another Monday. People do not communicate which makes conflict so much worse. On days like these I find myself at the line where kind enablement is no longer an option. Contracts and agreements are good to keep around for these Mondays...

Holidays make it hard to live. Here comes another holiday and the stores are closed. Some of us need to buy food and other consumable items. I have plenty of toilet paper (never want to run out of that...) but find it frustrating. The larger issue is that the commercial market place largely operates during a schedule that best suits the people who are not working. If I work all week and go home on time I have no chance to go to the bank or other institution. I don't expect these services to be open longer but to have a change in schedules. Open early some days or late some days to enable the full extent of the customer base. These types of issues are what has given rise to the internet and the self service attitude in many places.

Frustration... Organizations that constantly tie their own hands do so knowingly. I have discovered in this new culture that people can and will create work out of an instilled instinct even when their education has instructed otherwise.

Full plate of projects and busy work. When I am not the "wisdom" I am the moral support. I am working to enable the people of Chile in every way that I can.

2009/11/14

Almost three weeks in Chile and things are crazy. Half the people want me to learn Spanish and the rest want me to teach them English. People and work is good. Having to develop naming conventions on the fly for missing infrastructure is tiresome but things will get better. Listening to the Cranberries and hacking away at infrastructure. Out of Band (OOB) management is very important and not often used in technology or in business. I shall have to add some notes about that at some point.

My first week in Chile. Tired, sore, and wondering when it is going to get warm again. Trying to settle in but I have been pulled in so many different directions.

Still playing with content and layout... I don't expect to find any sweet spots but willl try to get close... Looks good in all the browsers I could test with. Standards compliant and just works...

Starting to like the layout and how the site works. I am working toward some more SEO on the site. I am very happy with a one line hack to enable multiple domains in the site links.

For some reason unknown to me I decided to update and upgrade my lathama.tld sites. These sites are typically for my development and hacking needs but I just wanted to express some development ideas to the masses. CHECK MY CODE!
